To Dream
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 October 2026
To Dream is a lucid dreaming app published by Ensonova LLC ("Ensonova", "we", "us"). Dreams are personal, so this policy is specific: it says what stays on your phone, what leaves it, who receives it, and how long it is kept. It covers the iOS and Android versions of To Dream.
The short version
Your recordings and journal are stored on your phone. There is no account and no email to give. Nothing is sent for transcription or dream analysis until you choose Allow, and you can switch that off in Settings at any time. When you allow it, recordings are transcribed by OpenAI and dream analyses are written by Anthropic (with OpenAI as a backup). Neither uses your dreams to train its models. We do not show ads, and we do not sell or share your information for advertising.
1. Who we are
Ensonova LLC, based in the United States, publishes To Dream and is responsible for the personal information processed through it (the "controller" under data protection law). Contact us at support@ensonova.com.
2. What stays on your phone
Your voice recordings, your journal (titles, transcripts, any text you edit or type), your dream signs, tags, ratings and feelings, your saved dream analyses, your practice history and streaks, your reminders and your sleep audio settings are stored in the app's private storage on your device. Recording and playback work without sending anything anywhere.
If your phone backs up app data (for example iCloud Backup or Google backup), that backup may include To Dream's files, under your backup provider's terms and your settings.
An optional setting removes recordings older than 90 days once they have been transcribed. Deleting a dream in the app removes its recording and entry from your phone.
3. Nothing goes to AI until you allow it
Before To Dream sends anything for transcription or dream analysis, it asks: "Transcribe your recordings?" and explains that the audio and its words go to OpenAI, and that dream text for a dream analysis goes to Anthropic, with OpenAI as a backup. You can choose Allow or Keep on this phone only.
If you keep things on your phone, you can still record, replay, keep your journal, practise and use sleep audio; recordings simply wait, unread. You can change your answer any time with the Send recordings for transcription switch in Settings. Turning it off stops future sends; it cannot recall something already processed.
One exception: the Test connection button in Settings sends a short sample clip that ships with the app, never your own recordings.
4. What is sent for AI processing, and to whom
When you have allowed it, To Dream sends the following through our server to these providers:
| Feature | What is sent | Who processes it |
|---|---|---|
| Transcription | A copy of the recording's audio | OpenAI |
| Title and dream signs | The transcript or text you typed | OpenAI |
| Sorting dream signs | The short dream sign phrases | OpenAI |
| Dream analysis (only when you ask) | The dream's text, the perspective you chose, an optional note you add (up to 500 characters), and for Ancient Traditions short public domain historical passages | Anthropic, with OpenAI as a backup if Anthropic is unavailable |
Your ratings, feelings, tags, title edits, practice history and the name of anything you saved are not sent. We never send your name, email or contacts, because the app never asks for them.
How the providers treat it. OpenAI and Anthropic process this data to provide their service to us under their API business terms. Under those terms, data sent through their APIs is not used to train their models, and they may keep it for up to 30 days to detect abuse, or longer where the law requires. We do not have a zero data retention agreement with either provider. Their policies: OpenAI, Anthropic.
AI results can be wrong. Dream analyses are reflections for you to consider, not facts or advice.
5. Our server and what it keeps
Requests pass through To Dream's server, which runs on Google Cloud (Firebase) in the United States; Cloudflare may also be used to route requests. The server holds our provider keys so they never sit on your phone, checks your allowance, and forwards your request. It does not store your audio.
To make allowances work without an account, the server keeps:
- An anonymous identifier. The app signs in to Firebase anonymously in the background. This creates a random ID with no name or email attached. The server links it to a random account code.
- Your plan and usage. Your membership level, its expiry, and counts of transcription minutes and dream analyses used.
- Per dream records. A one way fingerprint (hash) of each dream's ID and of its transcript, and whether it has been processed, so the same dream is never charged twice. These cannot be turned back into your words.
- A short lived result cache. The text of a finished transcription, title and signs, or dream analysis is held for about 24 hours (up to 7 days if a request is still in progress) so a retry after a dropped connection returns the same result without using your allowance again. It is then deleted automatically.
- Abuse protection. A one way fingerprint of your IP address, kept for up to 24 hours, to limit automated misuse.
- Purchase records, described in section 7.
Our server logs record errors by code only, never the content of your dreams. Our hosting providers keep their own standard request logs (such as time and IP address) under their terms.
6. Analytics
We use Mixpanel to understand how To Dream is used, so we can fix problems and improve it. Mixpanel receives events such as "dream recorded" (with its length), "dream analysis requested" (with the perspective), a practice tool being used, or a plan screen being viewed, together with your app version and standard device information such as model, operating system, language and approximate location derived from your IP address. Events are tied to a random identifier generated by Mixpanel.
Analytics never include your recordings, transcripts, dream titles, dream signs, tags, feelings or notes. We do not use advertising identifiers, we do not ask to track you across other companies' apps and websites, and To Dream contains no advertising or attribution software. There is currently no in app switch to turn analytics off; deleting the app stops it, and you can ask us to delete analytics data (section 10).
7. Purchases
Memberships are bought through the App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google handle payment, and we never see your card details or your Apple or Google account. To confirm a purchase and give you the right allowance, our server receives the store's transaction information: the product, a transaction or purchase token, order ID, purchase environment and expiry date. Google purchases are checked with Google's Play Developer API; Apple purchases are checked against Apple's signature, and Apple sends us renewal and refund notices. We keep these records while your membership is active and afterwards as needed for accounting, tax, fraud prevention and refunds.
8. Other services the app contacts
- Sleep audio. Affirmation and music files are downloaded from Google Cloud Storage when needed. Like any download, this shares your IP address with Google; the files themselves contain nothing about you.
- Links you open, such as this policy or your subscription settings, open in your browser.
9. Permissions
- Microphone, to record your dreams. Used only while you are recording.
- Notifications, for reminders you turn on. These are scheduled on your phone; we do not send push notifications.
- Live Activities (iPhone), to show today's notice practice on your Lock Screen. Updated on the phone only.
- Background audio, so sleep audio keeps playing with the screen off.
To Dream does not ask for your location, contacts, photos, calendar or health data.
10. Keeping and deleting your information
| Information | Where | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Recordings, journal, signs, ratings, analyses | Your phone | Until you delete them or the app |
| AI result cache | Our server | About 24 hours (up to 7 days if unfinished) |
| IP fingerprint | Our server | Up to 24 hours |
| Anonymous ID, plan, usage, dream fingerprints | Our server | While you use To Dream, then until you ask us to delete them |
| Purchase records | Our server | As long as needed for accounting, tax and refunds |
| Data sent to OpenAI or Anthropic | The provider | Up to 30 days, under their terms |
| Analytics events | Mixpanel | Up to 24 months |
To delete everything on your phone, delete dreams in the app or delete the app. To delete what our server holds and your analytics data, email support@ensonova.com with the subject "To Dream data deletion". Because there is no account, include the date you installed the app and, if you have a membership, your App Store or Google Play order ID so we can find your records. We will act within 30 days, except for purchase records we must keep by law.
11. Sharing
We share information only with the service providers named in this policy (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Firebase, Cloudflare, Mixpanel, Apple and Google for purchases), each for the purpose described, or where the law requires it. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross context behavioral advertising.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and California, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your information, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent. We send recordings for AI processing only with your consent; we process purchase information to provide the membership you bought; and we use analytics and abuse protection on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a reliable, secure app. Contact us to use any of these rights. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
13. International transfers
Our server and providers operate in the United States and other countries. If you use To Dream elsewhere, your information is transferred to and processed there, with safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses where required.
14. Children
To Dream is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has used To Dream's AI features, contact us and we will delete the related records.
15. Security
Requests to our server and providers are encrypted in transit, provider keys stay on the server, and our database cannot be read directly by the app. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we hold to a minimum for exactly that reason.
16. Not medical advice
To Dream is a journaling and practice tool. Dream analyses are for reflection and are not therapy, diagnosis or medical advice.
17. Changes and contact
If we change how To Dream handles your information, we will update this page and the date above, and we will tell you in the app before any change that affects what is sent for AI processing. Questions: support@ensonova.com, Ensonova LLC, United States.
